Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
In Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), access to clean water and sanitation is not merely a matter of convenience but a critical factor in climate resilience and community well-being. The harsh realities of climate change, including prolonged droughts, high temperatures and unpredictable rainfall patterns, have intensified water stress, posing significant risks to the well-being and livelihoods of ASALs communities.
We recognise that climate-resilient WASH solutions are essential for building adaptive capacity and ensuring sustainable development. As such, we work with communities to implement innovative water management strategies and promote the development of sanitation facilities, thereby facilitating access and dignifying ASAL communities. We also prioritise education on hygiene, empowering communities to protect themselves from waterborne diseases, with particular attention to the needs of women and girls, who are usually affected disproportionately by water scarcity as they are often responsible for collecting water for their households. We also work with local governments and partners to strengthen water governance and promote equitable access to water resources.
